Dr. Jerry Farrell on Handling Emergency Visits
Real emergencies, when people come in and their face is swollen like this, they need emergency pain control immediately. I do handle that stuff. If you do endo, if you do complicated stuff, you better be able to handle the complicated versions of what shows up there. There’s,“Lets get you comfortable immediately.” They’re in pain—always comfort first. If you ask somebody who’s in pain, “Hey, what do you want to do?“ They’re like,“Take it out.“ I’m like, “Okay, I get it. Let’s get this thing numb and see how you feel about it in five minutes.“
Nine out of ten will be like, “Okay, I don’t want it out. What should I do?“ Then you’re talking about stuff. So there’s a proper way of putting together taking care of folks depending on how they present. It’s an art, it’s part of the art of it. That’s fun, a blast for me.
